Ice Cube In Talks For Role In '21 Jump Street' Film

By Allen Starbury Cube has been doing the acting thing for quite some time, and music on the side. Over the past year, the west coast hip-hop legend has been enjoying success on TV as producer on TBS' "Are We There Yet." But now, the rapper is returning to the movies.

According to Variety, Cube is reportedly in negotiations to star in the upcoming remake of "21 Jump Street", alongside Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

The upcoming film will star Hill and Tatum as cops who go undercover in colleges and high schools.

If Cube comes aboard, he'll likely play the police chief, Captain Dickinson, who did not appear on the show under the same name. The film adaptation, based on the show that starred Johnny Depp and ran in the late '80s for five seasons.

Production for "21 Jump Street" is expected to begin in late April, with film hitting theaters in 2012.

Aside from being interested in the aforementioned role, Cube is also currently wrapping up filming on the upcoming LAPD scandal film, "Rampart," where he'll play officer caught up in the city's anti-gang program, known for committing crimes against citizens.

"I've been looking for these kinds of roles," Cube previously said of the role. "I've been doing comedies and family kind of deals lately, and I've been looking for dramas. As an actor, I'm really looking forward to being part of a heavy story."
